Finding a mentor
We have helped hundreds of women find a mentor. A mentor can be a valuable source of help and advice when you’re:
- coping with difficult situations such as dealing with conflict or returning from a career break
- in a minority at work - such as being in a male-dominated profession
- applying for a new job or promotion
Mentoring can help you:
- improve your confidence, motivation and focus
- actively manage and progress your career
- develop useful contacts and networking skills
- give and receive feedback
- be challenged to maximise your potential
- use talents and share expertise
- get help with ideas
How can you find a mentor?
If you are a woman working in or studying science, engineering or technology (SET) and would like to find a mentor, you can:
- Contact MentorSET - they provide mentoring opportunities for women in SET.
- Find out if mentoring is offered by your employer, learning provider, a network in your industry or your professional body. If there isn’t one already, why not persuade them to start one? The UKRC can help with practical advice and support
- Join a network and approach someone you meet to ask them to be your mentor. The UKRC may be able to help. We could give you access to our online training module for mentors and mentees, or offer advice over the telephone on good practice in setting up a mentoring partnership.
