Becoming a mentor
Why become a mentor?
Mentoring can be a tremendously rewarding experience, for both mentor and mentee. As a mentor, you have the chance to:
- enhance your skills in active listening, coaching and counselling
- develop a more personal style of leadership
- learn new approaches and ways of working
- extend your professional networks
- add to your cv
- share your knowledge and expertise
- give something back and help another woman
How can you become a mentor?
If you are a woman working in or studying science, engineering or technology (SET) and would like to be a mentor, you can:
- Contact MentorSET - they provide mentoring opportunities for women in SET.
- Sign up to a mentoring scheme offered by your employer, learning provider, network in your industry or professional body.
- Set up a scheme: if your place of employment, learning provider or professional body hasn't got a mentoring scheme, encourage them to contact us. We help organisations and employers to develop mentoring schemes.
