Mentoring
Many employers provide mentoring support for employees, and this can be particularly beneficial for women working in science, engineering, technology and the built environment, where they are often in a minority and can benefit from additional encouragement and support.
The UKRC and WISE are skilled at helping employers and other organisations set up mentoring schemes for employees, board members, students, members and volunteers. Mentoring can help in a range of situations, such as:
- settling into a new environment
- seeking promotion or entering a position of leadership
- being in a minority
- coping with difficult situations such as dealing with conflict or returning from a career break
We are able to train mentees, assist with the development and assessment of a programme of mentoring, and help with monitoring and tracking results.
Mentoring can also be done as a group and the UKRC and WISE can offer training in how to set up a 'Peer Mentoring Circle'.
- a peer mentoring circle is a group of women who meet to spend time supporting each other in working towards individual goals
- each person gives and receives support and encouragement
- the group can be led by a facilitator or by the group members themselves
