Voluntary work

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way to develop and learn new skills, make contacts and build your confidence. It could increase your chances of finding work and it shows an employer that you have drive and commitment. Use the experience and skills to put on your CV and job applications. Read more about the benefits of volunteering.

You can usually get your travel expenses paid so you aren't out of pocket. Depending on the organisation, you could do regular work over a period of weeks, a one off day or two, or work on a specific project.

You could also consider doing a work placement.
