Role models
Whether we realise it or not we are all subject to the influence of role models: people we admire and who we may wish to imitate in some way; someone with whom we can identify and who provides examples of positive behaviour. A strong role model can be inspirational and, sometimes, life changing.
Female role models can help to challenge the stereotypical view that careers in science, engineering and technology (SET) are less suitable for women than for men.
You can be a role model to other women and girls at any stages of your study or career by:
- being visible as a public speaker
- becoming a mentor
- joining GetSET Women to raise your profile
- featuring on GetSET Women Blog
- joining a public body
- blogging
- joining an established role model scheme, such as STEMNET's Science & Engineering Ambasadors Scheme
Role models on this website:
- women inventors, entrepreneurs and business owners
- women who have been supported to raise their profile or return to SET employment in our success stories
- read our current and archived GetSET Women blogs for inspiration from women working at all levels of SET
- search GetSET Women – our online community of women in SET
