Online social networking

Social Networking sites are great tools for career development or finding a job. They can be used to chat to people in your industry that you may not ordinarily come into contact with.

Job Vacancies - You can search for job vacancies on LinkedIn and Twitter. Applicants are able to send their applications direct to employers or businesses unlike other recruiting websites and agencies. The jobs on these sites are updated regularly so make sure you do regular searches to keep up to date.

Building your profile - Keep your profile active and updated. The last thing an employer wants to see is a half finished profile! Make sure you target your area of interest and build your contacts. Even if you aren't thinking about looking for a new job now, it will make it easier for you in the future if you do decide that you want to move on from your current role. Get in touch and keep in touch with previous work colleagues and employers to extend your network.

Don't forget to build your profile on GetSET Women too!

Twitter - Twitter is a real-time information network powered by people all around the world that lets you share and discover what’s happening now. When you sign up, choose a clear and simple username as this makes you easier to find. Search for people you know. Look at people your contacts are following and follow them if of interest to you.

Facebook - Be better connected and learn more about the people you meet by sharing info, photos, videos, updates and links. Think about whether you want to share your personal Facebook profile with professional colleagues; you could set up a second profile which is for your business.

A word of warning!

Remember that anything you put on your profile can be hard to get rid of once it is on the network. Your entire network will be on display so don't write anything that you wouldn't want a prospective employer to see!!!
