Research projects

The UKRC runs occasional research projects. We aim to show where the shortages and barriers are, define and explore the challenges, and identify solutions.

Over the years, we have built up a valuable body of reports and briefings on a range of topics relating to women in science, engineering, technolgoy and the built environment. We work in partnership with universities, colleges and individual researchers to build on the work being done in this area, and generate new insights.

In 2010 we worked with two external researchers to explore the ways in which women in science, engineering and technology are depcited online - on websites, twitter, Wikipedia, YouTube, blogs and other enviornments. The researchers also talked to young people and to web developers to explore the issues in more depth.

This work builds on a number of research projects we have run that explore the depiction of women in SET in the media, and the ways they are perceived. Read a summary of our research into media representation of women in SET.
