Remembering the WISE Bus
In the 1980s the WISE Campaign ran a bus scheme that visited schools and other locations in order to inspire girls to consider study and careers in science, engineering, technology and maths. The bus had information, role models and more, and they had a big impact on many young women and girls, and on their teachers and parents.
At the UKRC/WISE we've been asking for memories of the WISE bus.
Here are some of your stories:
- Dawn Bonfield: switching girls on by helping them put circuit boards together
- Pamela Buchan: an exciting trip from Derbyshire to Imperial College London
- Sandra Buckton: 'I remember the WISE programme.. I’m now a Programme Director for a Technology Services company'
- Simone Earle: 'the WISE Bus influenced me so much!'
- Grace Gruppetta: opening a bus door using kit on a bread board
- Sarah Haslam: 'meeting real role models…………..I can do that!'
- Sam Hubbard: 'my commitment to encouraging to girls continue..'
- Dr Lucy Rogers: the sky’s the limit!
