UKRC funding and future

The UKRC is working with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Royal Academy of Engineering and other leading SET organisations to implement the government strategy of mainstreaming equality and diversity..

“The UKRC welcomes the recognition of the important contribution which the UKRC can continue to make to advancing gender equality in the science, engineering and technology sectors (SET)”, said Annette Williams, Director of the UKRC.

“We are extremely pleased that the UKRC will be able to play a central role over the coming year to support BIS and its partners in mainstreaming and embedding gender equality and diversity in their work.”

The recent agreement for the UKRC to take on the leadership of the WISE Campaign enables the UKRC to create a unified approach to the provision of all-age gender equality initiatives and resources, aligning the remits of the two initiatives.

“Our leadership of WISE receives high level endorsement,” said Annette Williams. “It opens the potential for new ventures and collaboration.”

In March 2011 the UKRC submitted a response to the Science and Technology Committee Inquiry into the Comprehensive Spending Review and the Science and Research budget allocation setting out the need for our work. Gender equality and other diversity issues remain a key concern within SET, industry and enterprise, and our external expertise remains essential to ensuring action and change.
