UK-Korea Science Forum

The UKRC has linked up with organisations in Korea working to improve the position and participation of women in science, engineering and technology.

This has included the creation of a UK-Korea Women in Science Forum and collaborations with the government-funded National Institute for Supporting Women in Science and Technology (NIS-WIST) and the Korea Federation of Women’s Science and Technology Associations (KOFWST).

The relationship began in 2005, and in 2006 fifty delegates from the UK and Korea met in London for the second UK-Korea Women in Science Forum. The conference was organised by the UKRC in association with the British Embassy in Korea and the then Department for Trade and Industry. It was opened by Lord Sainsbury, the UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Science and Innovation at the time.

In 2009 we led a high level visit to Korea by UK women working in science, engineering and technology. We then welcomed a delegation of Korean visitors to the UK. Our joint mission, working with governmetns and emabssies, is to collaborate with 'women in WET' organisations in Korea and share methodologies and approaches.
