Female and male apprentices

In 2006/07:
- Women were concentrated in the non-SET apprentice subjects such as health, public services and care
- Men predominated in engineering and manufacturing technologies and construction, planning and the built environment
- The most extreme gender differences were in construction, planning and the built environment and in engineering and manufacturing technologies, with a female proportion of apprentices and advanced apprentices at roughly 1 per cent.
- The lowest paying apprentice sectors such as hairdressing, early years and health and social care had the highest proportions of women among all apprentices.
- Overall, the highest paid sectors are all SET related: electrotechnical, engineering and manufacturing, construction and the motor industry, and have the lowest proportions of women apprentices.
